The Last Man - photo by Alan McFetridge Songs of the Dead is a photographic exploration aftermath devastating fire that impacted community Fort McMurray in Alberta Canada on 3rd May 2016. Six months after fire, stimulated media coverage and reflecting discourse surrounding dispossession environment, project commenced at ground level with support Royal Photographic Society Environmental Awareness Bursary region inhabited Anishinaabe1 located within Treaty 8 Territory, traditional lands Cree, Dene unceded territory Métis. visual essay presented here centred wake major event, however, it also about human law ecosystems. By traversing discussions ethics documentary photography briefly exploring history Aftermath this medium, we argue how can better address socio-ecological issues climate change through poetics. We offer way resisting norms photography, resulting from subject process-driven methods.
